Today Supreme Court of India bans Sanjay Dutt from contesting in 2009 Parliament election. It says the imprisonment of 6 years cannot be suspended as requested by Sanjay. Earlier, Sanjay Dutt was sentenced for 6 years imprisonment under Arms Act for illegally possessing arms in 1993 Mumbai serial blast case. And he announced a few months back that he would be contesting from Lucknow constituency in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha election on Samajwadi Party ticket. But Election Commission warned him that he cannot contest in Lok Sabha polls unless the imprisonment is suspended.
Sanjay Dutt would have been the star campaigner for this election if he is contesting; also he would be in the list of celebrity Member of Parliaments like Govindha, Jayapradha, Hemamalini, etc. But Sanjay Dutt met press today and informed that, UPA government was responsible for this court order. He also told, he will still reside in Lucknow and campaign for SP.
